Welcome to Wood You Rather?

Hello, and welcome to Wood You Rather. My name is Xavier Vaglia and I will be accompanying you on this journey. I am originally from the great state of Nebraska, known for its abundance of varying terrain and its diverse ecosystem. I then moved to Pennsylvania. As of now, I am a freshman attending a college in the District of Columbia. As to how I ended up here, there really is not any specific answer other than to get some fresh city air.

So you may be asking yourself, what in the world does this have to do with woodworking, and my answer to that is absolutely nothing. This is just the formal introduction that most, if not all of you will forget within the next 15 seconds.

Now to the important part, wood. I got into woodworking around the age of 9. It was at that time when my great-grandfather helped teach me how to make model navy vessels. I quickly became bored with this and did not return to it for another 7 years. It wasn’t until the force that was COVID came along that I really returned to woodworking. During the time that I was supposed to be learning online, I was learning how to hand plane wood and how to see the outside of a log and get an indication of what was going on its insides. I began to become infatuated with the community that was built around urban logging. My inspiration was the quirky Matt Cremona and his urban logging videos. As I tried to replicate what Matt did, I found it difficult to get started.
